To reduce waste, Onet gives a second life to its WEEE

From November 16 to 24, 2019, the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) takes place. This annual highlight proposes solutions to try and reduce waste and encourage new ways of consuming better!

On this occasion, we'd like to highlight one of our responsible actions: giving a second life to waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) through our partnership with Nodixia.

A week to remember good practices

The European Week for Waste Reduction is a key event of the year, once again raising our employees' awareness of the need to reduce the amount of waste we generate, and giving them the keys to taking action on a daily basis. This event is based on waste prevention, which raises awareness before waste is produced... Let's not forget that the best waste is that which is not produced.

Reuse and recycle, one of our priorities

Aware of the need to recycle and reuse its waste electrical and electronic equipment, Onet sought a responsible partner. Since 2017, this issue has been entrusted to Nodixia, a specialist in solidarity and sustainable reconditioning.

In 2018, we set up a test phase with our partner Nodixia in the South-East region to find the most efficient method for collecting our WEEE. The trial was a real success, with 578 devices collected, including 219 CPUs, 135 laptops and 66 smartphones (for a test representing 13 branches, i.e. 1/3 of the South-East region).

Over the last quarter of 2019 and thefirst half of 2020, the solution is being rolled out across the Group nationwide (nearly 350 branches in France).

On this occasion, we'd like to highlight one of our responsible actions: giving a second life to waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) through our partnership with Nodixia.

What happens to our WEEE?

Nodixia manages and optimizes waste electrical and electronic equipment from Onet's IT assets.

In 80% of cases, equipment that is recoverable and functional is reconditioned and resold on the second-hand market. A genuine second life for the equipment, in keeping with a controlled environmental approach and promoting a circular economy.

Out-of-service and obsolete equipment is recycled in accordance with WEEE Directive 2002/96/EC.

Nodixia, a partner with shared values

Onet pays close attention to the choice of its partners. Nodixia shares many of the Group's environmental, social and societal values.

Nodixia is an adapted company, employing disabled people for at least 80% of its production workforce. It is also committed to respecting the confidentiality of the data entrusted to it, as attested by the Blancco certification for data erasure. Last but not least, the company is ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environment) certified.
