Road safety: our daily commitment

From November 16 to 20, road safety days were held at the workplace, aimed at preventing the dangers incurred on work-related journeys. Road accidents are the leading cause of death in the workplace. It is therefore essential for us to continually raise awareness among our employees, as part of our "Piloter Onet en Prévention" prevention policy.

Committed to road safety for our employees

At the end of 2016, we signed the national corporate appeal for road safety in the workplace, making 7 strong commitments to the safe business travel of its employees:

  1. Limit telephone conversations at the wheel to emergencies only
  2. Prescribing sobriety on the road
  3. Requiring the use of seat belts
  4. Do not exceed speed limits
  5. Include rest periods when calculating journey times
  6. Promoting road safety and eco-driving training
  7. Encourage drivers of two-wheelers (commuting) to better equip themselves

With over 70,000 employees and a fleet of 8,000 vehicles (4,000 Light Vehicles and Heavy Duty Vehicles), it is essential for us to implement plans and actions to protect them and raise their awareness.

Thanks to our commitment, since January 2020, our responsible development director and our road risk prevention & eco-mobility manager have been part of the government's road safety commission.

Leading a road risk prevention initiative

Since 2009, a genuine road risk prevention initiative has been underway.

To this end, the Group has delegated a manager in charge of road risk prevention and eco-mobility. This has led to the introduction of teaching tools, the harmonization of practices and the provision of prevention and refresher training.

In over 10 years, these road safety sessions have trained more than 7,000 employees. Historically, these training sessions were carried out on simulators.

In 2018, thanks to a partnership with the Ecole de conduite Française, half-day training courses in real-life road situations will raise awareness of safety issues, as well as eco-driving.

"An "eco-driving" driver is a good "road risk" driver, because he is attentive to all the clues on his route," explains Nathalie Da Silva, our road risk prevention and eco-mobility manager.

This year, due to the Covid19 pandemic, e-learning modules have been introduced to ensure that good driving practices continue.

"Initially, employees were rather skeptical about the benefits of devoting 1h30 to road risk prevention. Very quickly, the first employees to be trained were positive about the relevance of this training. Today, prevention is part of the company's culture. The feedback on this training is extremely positive," emphasizes Nathalie Da Silva.

Our employees also have access to a wealth of information on road risk prevention via the internal networks available within the Group.

In order to formalize best practices, the annual POP (Piloter Onet en Prévention) day is the key event for considering health prevention as a priority and an integral part of our corporate culture. Various workshops are offered to our employees:

  • Accident simulation (motorcycle/car crash test at 30km/h)
  • Workshops on vision and musculoskeletal disorders (occupational medicine)
  • Workshops on tire inflation, level maintenance, etc...

Other actions are also being implemented to pursue and mark our commitment:

  • Signing of a partnership charter with CARSAT Sud-Est
  • The greening of our fleet, with the introduction of a decision-making questionnaire based on vehicle use
  • A carpooling site for our employees in partnership with Blablalines

Feedback, analysis and prevention

Since 2019, we have set up a "safety coaching" program for the Group's 15 most accident-prone branches. A 44% drop was recorded in claims relating to the vehicle fleet. The positive impact of coaching on driving behavior has also helped reduce fuel consumption.

For all our branches, we have set up an accident comprehension form, based on a post-accident debriefing to help understand and analyze situations.

Eco-sustainable challenges through the road risk prevention policy

As mentioned, we are currently working on greening our vehicle fleet.

In line with our commitment to the environment, the vehicles in our fleet are electric and/or hybrid.

We analyze our employees' needs, advise them and provide them with the right vehicle for the job.

Thanks to our fleet policy and frequent vehicle renewal, over 71% of our fleet emits less than 120g of CO2/km.

Our drivers, trained in eco-driving, have also seen a reduction of 68g per kilometer on their meters.
