Official launch of the Onet - Fabrice Amedeo partnership for the preservation of the oceans

After several weeks of waiting, Fabrice Amedeo's IMOCA was finally able to return to its natural element following the work carried out during this complex health situation. The release of the monohull officially launches the partnership between Onet and Fabrice Amedeo.

As a reminder, Onet has decided to enter into a 3-year partnership with Fabrice Amedeo, mainly through the financing of an oceanographic sensor. A sailor and journalist who has taken part in many internationally renowned races such as the Vendée Globe, Fabrice is enabling the Group to play an active part in the fight against global warming.

The sensors on board the navigator's boat, made up of various modules, which collect data on water salinity, Co2 levels and phytoplankton content, are on an unprecedented scale - because they are collected offshore, in places where scientific boats pass by once every 10 years.

These analyses will be of considerable help in modelling climate change and studying the level of pollution in the oceans, and thus in preserving biodiversity.

Fabrice Amedeo shares his latest news before the big departure

All the signs are green for Fabrice Amedeo, who can't wait to get back to racing and collecting data on our oceans, starting on July 4 with the Vendée-Arctique-Les Sables d'Olonne. This new 3,600-mile ocean race, starting and finishing in Les Sables d'Olonne via the Arctic Circle, will serve as a dress rehearsal before the 2020-2021 Vendée Globe, scheduled for November 8 in Les Sables d'Olonne.

After numerous adjustments, the boat is now more performance-oriented, more reliable and more ergonomic. The cap, which already covered a lot of ground, has been extended to the rear of the boat, allowing the sailor to take shelter from the icy spray of the southern seas.

The boat's rudders and oceanographic sensor are due to arrive in Lorient next week.

" The rudders are still at the Persico yard in Bergamo, northern Italy. We have decided to maintain the launch in order to make further progress on preparing the boat. We're also waiting for the oceanographic sensor components to arrive from Germany next Thursday. As soon as the rudders and sensor are installed, we'll be able to start sailing, resume training and carry out the first tests on the microplastic module," Fabrice enthuses.

Focus on the evolution of the oceanographic sensor

A new module has been installed on the oceanographic sensor. The sensor, which measures CO2 content, salinity and ocean surface temperature, will now be able to collect microplastics!

Fabrice's navigations take him to areas to which they rarely have access.

This oceanographic project, initiated last year by the skipper with the Group's support, is gaining momentum in the run-up to the Vendée Globe, whose course will provide invaluable data. These measurements will be made available to the international scientific community, contributing to a better understanding of the impacts of global warming and pollution on the oceans.
