Trash and 8,000 cigarette butts collected in 2 hours

On Saturday, September 12, more than 52 Onet employees and their families gathered in Malmousque, Marseille, for the 7th beach cleanup organized by 1 Déchet par Jour, alongside the Cercle des Nageurs de Marseille, Onet, and its dedicated skipper, Fabrice Amedeo.

A particularly iconic and popular spot in Marseille that welcomes many visitors and tourists every year who come to enjoy its coastline. All the more reason to preserve this exceptional setting and raise awareness about protecting our Mediterranean Sea.

A long-term effort by the collective

For several years now, Onet has been organizing beach cleanups, guided by the belief that raising awareness also requires taking action.

From Catalans Beach to Marcel Pagnol Pier, these initiatives brought together employees, families, organizations, and partners around a common goal: to protect our coastlines. This year, more than 8,000 cigarette butts were also collected—trash that won’t end up in the ocean.

Fabrice Amedeo: A Shared Commitment

This initiative is also a continuation of the partnership between Onet and Fabrice Amedeo, which began in 2019.

Through his #OceanCalling project, Fabrice is working to raise awareness and conduct research on ocean conservation. In Marseille, this partnership regularly takes on a very dynamic dimension.

Last June, Onet organized several key events in connection with its visit to Marseille aboard an IMOCA yacht: meetings with employees and journalists, outreach activities for schoolchildren, tours of its yacht, sailing trips, and discussions on issues related to ocean conservation.

These events helped bring the partnership to life in our region and raise awareness among various audiences about the environmental issues that affect us all.

Next event: the Route du Rhum

After Marseille, it’s on to Saint-Malo for another highlight: Fabrice Amedeo will soon set sail in the Route du Rhum, Destination Guadeloupe, aboard his research vessel.

From the race village to the pontoons, Onet will once again join forces with Fabrice to bring this partnership to life and spread the message about ocean conservation. The race is scheduled to start on November 1 for another Atlantic crossing.

A big thank you to the 52 staff members and their families, as well as to all the volunteers, members, and partners who came together for this 7th edition.
