Prevent collisions for ocean racing skippers, but also raise awareness among those involved in maritime traffic.
During offshore races, Fabrice Amedeo has set up two systems, OSCAR and Whale Shield, designed to avoid collisions with UFOs (unidentified floating objects) and cetaceans.
The stakes are high, and ocean racing has a role to play not only in setting an example, but also in researching innovative solutions that could then be deployed on commercial vessels.
Unfortunately, collisions with cetaceans are a frequent occurrence. Fabrice Amedeo wants to talk about it: " If 30 IMOCAs launched around the world can't escape collisions with cetaceans, what about the world's commercial fleet?
