Onet limits its plastic waste production and ecological impact

Committed to responsible development for many years, Onet launched its CSR policy, "A present for the future", in 2002.

A policy that cuts across all our businesses, to meet environmental, economic, social and societal challenges. A constant effort is made to raise awareness and educate employees and customers, to encourage them to adopt these new practices.

Aware of the growing impact of plastic on the quality of ecosystems (8.3 million tonnes of plastic generated worldwide in 75 years), Onet has decided to take concrete action in its core business.

Onet has been integrating the circular economy into its strategy since 2017

The circular economy is implemented through nationally-led projects.

Methods and procedures for customers and employees are modified to reduce the resources used while maintaining equivalent quality.

Processes are reviewed in a circular economy logic. In 2018, Onet also signed a partnership with the Circular Economy Institute to further anchor the approach.

Reuse before recycling, or how to optimize your process to save resources: the Biogistic solution

In 2017, Onet changed the logistics of its core business by implementing a :

Biogistic, based on the simple principle of reusing empty bottles instead of throwing them away.

This change has enabled the group to reduce its plastic consumption by 1/3 on traditional cleaning services. Recycling plastic is good, reusing plastic is better. The purpose of recycling is to continue and maintain plastic production. Reuse therefore helps to slow down production.

The logistical organization of the cleaning service has been completely overhauled, from the purchase of products to their use.

A technical solution for controlled dilution - Dilumob - has been combined with it and implemented in 130 Onet cleaning agencies.

Reducing your ecological footprint with Biogistic means :

  • Ultra-concentrated products for reduced transport andCO2 emissions,
  • Biodegradability twice as fast as the Ecolabel standard,
  • Reused containers for less plastic waste.

Continuing our commitment to innovation: upgrading the Biogistic dilution plant

In order to respond more effectively to the needs and problems of operators, the new version of Dilumob allows for up to 4 additional biotech products. This evolution extends the fight against single-use plastic.

#Biogistic key figures

  • 20 tonnes of plastic saved in 2018,
  • + 2 million plastic bottles not thrown away over the next 5 years,
  • 130 branches involved and 650 supervisory staff trained,
  • 215 INHNI-approved in-house trainers*.
  • +7500 employees trained on Biogistic in 2019
  • 173 DILUMOB® mobile dilution stations installed nationwide by the end of 2019,
  • 30% reduction in plastic waste on conventional cleaning services,
  • 73% by the end of 2019 of eco-responsible products in our core business: commercial cleaning.

* The training and consultancy organization for the Hygiene, Cleaning and Environment sector.

Over and above the plastic issue, the Group has rethought its ecosystem, giving new meaning and value to the actions of all its stakeholders (employees, customers, suppliers).

The February 10, 2020 law on the fight against waste and the circular economy, a guiding principle for Onet

This law sets out short-term actions, including the elimination of single-use plastic tableware by 2020-2021, in which Onet has already invested, but also provides for the end of single-use plastics by 2040.

With its Biogistic solution, the Onet Group is ahead of the game with a nationwide solution for reusing plastic containers instead of throwing them away as soon as they are used, in its core business. This has enabled us to reduce plastic consumption by 20 tonnes in 1 year, from the very first year of operation.

Support scientific studies

The Onet Group has signed a 3-year partnership to support the project of Fabrice Amedeo, a yachtsman committed to biodiversity through the preservation of the oceans and the planet.

In addition to the navigator's performance and racing program (Transat Jacques Vabre, Vendée Globe, Route du Rhum, The Arch...), he is also involved in a scientific, oceanographic and educational project for the preservation of the planet.

Onet is financing a sensor on board the navigator's boat, made up of various modules that collect data on water salinity, Co2 levels and phytoplankton content. The aim is to measure the impact of pollution and climate change on the oceans, particularly in isolated areas where scientific boats carry out surveys at best every 10 years!
