The 5 industry leaders hold 32% market share, compared with 31% in 2018. This is still a low level.

Securitas France loses first place to Seris Security. There is no change in the ranking between ranks 3 and 7. Samsic Sécurité and Protectim move up 2 places to 8th and 9th.

Despite market growth and a demand for higher quality on the part of customers, the price war is back with a vengeance, and could become even more pronounced.

The French market in figures

  • The profession steps up its performance in 2019
  • Increase in 2019 sales: €4,329.4 billion (+3.7% vs. 2018)
  • Increase in workforce: 127,500 (+300 employees vs. 2018)

Significant increase in demand in certain customer segments

In particular, human security companies have benefited from a significant increase in demand in several customer segments, such as transport, Seveso sites, retail chains, sports and cultural venues, etc.

Some of them have also been called upon due to the increase in urban violence during the Gilets jaunes protests.

Crucial operations that reshuffle the cards

Structural acquisitions took place in 2019, with Seris acquiring Poland's No. 1 security company. Seris has thus become one of Europe's market leaders.

On a completely different note, Delta Drone (a drone manufacturer), has acquired ATM Group (a human security company), illustrating a strategy of complementarity between man and technology.

Despite these major maneuvers, the sector remains fragmented, with a chronic overpopulation of companies and new start-ups driven by a ferocious appetite for growth.

Companies in bankruptcy: a downward trend

The percentage of bankrupt companies is falling, but remains the highest in the security sector.

  • 11% of human security companies went bankrupt in 2018
  • 9% of human security companies to go bankrupt in 2019
  • Bankrupt security companies in the security and safety sector in 2019: 7%.

Note: most of the bankrupt companies are small (Astriam Sécurité, Isopro, Sud Gardiennage, Elytis Sécurité, AMG Sécurité, Top Gardiennage Privé).

2020 forecasts

The year 2020 will also have been rich in crucial transactions, notably the takeover of Prosegur France by Fiducial. Ambitions that will certainly not stop there...

Luxant has also acquired Octopus Sécurité, joining the very select circle of the top 10 players in the sector.

After 6 years of growth, the sector will fall back into negative territory in 2020 due to the effects of the health crisis (Sales forecast for 2020: -11% or €3,852.1 billion).

A scale unprecedented in the history of human safety. This drop in activity is the result of the closure of many businesses and transport networks during the containment period, and the severe economic downturn afterwards.

Nonetheless, new tasks were created for the security guards, who were tasked with monitoring compliance with mask wearing requirements, or with queue management. But this has not compensated for the fall in demand. There is hope that the economy will gradually return to normal in 2021.
