Webconference #Oceancalling
Discover live the first results of Fabrice Amedeo's scientific project supported by Onet.

On March 30 at 10:30 a.m., Fabrice Amedeo will announce the first results of the samples taken during the 2020-2021 Vendée Globe during his #OceanCalling conference, live from the Onet Group headquarters.

Onet x Fabrice Amedeo
History of the partnership

With the support of the Onet Group, Fabrice Amedeo has set up a project called #OceanCalling , installing oceanographic sensors on board his boat to collect data at sea to help scientists better understand the impact and consequences of global warming and greenhouse gases on the oceans.

The #OceanCalling conference,
first results from samples taken on the 2020-2021 Vendée Globe

During his last Vendée Globe, Fabrice Amedeo collected 53 samples thanks to the Onet-supported microplastics sensor on board his IMOCA.

Teams from Ifremer Brest, the University of Bordeaux and IRD have just completed the analysis of 300 µm mesh filters. On Wednesday March 30 at 10:30 a .m., they will unveil their findings to the general public, live from the headquarters of Onet, a partner in the scientific project.

This large-scale project represents an unprecedented opportunity to collect and analyze microplastics of various size classes, present in surface ocean waters on which little data is currently available.

Other samples on smaller filters (100 µm) are currently being studied, as well as those from the Transat Jacques Vabre. These new samples will enable us to carry out a complete study in the near future.

Who is Fabrice Amedeo?
Family man, journalist and committed sailor

After completing his first Vendée Globe in 2017, Fabrice Amedeo realized that sailing was no longer enough for him: he wanted to give meaning to his sporting project. Sailor, citizen and family man, Fabrice, who sails all the world's seas and crosses remote regions where scientific expeditions can't go, decided to put his boat at the service of the international scientific community.
