Onet Group strengthens its nuclear dismantling expertise with a new laser technocenter

The inauguration of the Onet Technologies laser technocenter marks a new stage in the history of Onet.

With innovation at the heart of its strategy, the Group confirms its commitment to helping customers meet the challenges of nuclear dismantling.

Onet Group strengthens its nuclear dismantling expertise with a new laser technocenter

Onet has just inaugurated its laser technocenter, dedicated to the preparation, training and development of laser cutting technology applied to nuclear dismantling. This initiative is part of a global drive to improve the performance, safety and competitiveness of dismantling operations, both in France and abroad.

A key player in the nuclear sector, Onet Technologies, which specializes in engineering, design, manufacturing, maintenance, operation and training for the nuclear and defense industries, has taken a new step in its expertise in dismantling.

Industrializing nuclear dismantling

As nuclear facilities age, dismantling is a major challenge for the nuclear industry. Onet Technologies is contributing to the implementation of safe and efficient solutions to meet this challenge in the nuclear world, by developing a structure capable of using cutting-edge technologies such as lasers,

Alain Gauvin, Managing Director, Onet Technologies

The nuclear industry has a major responsibility not only to contribute to the production of low-carbon, competitive energy, but also to future generations by dismantling end-of-life facilities safely and industrially. This is exactly the aim of Onet Technologies' use of laser technology, to bring operational performance to decommissioning projects!

Unique expertise in dismantling

With over 45 years' experience in the field of dismantling, Onet Technologies has developed unique expertise in laser technology applied to the dismantling of nuclear facilities (power plants, research centers, fuel cycle plants, etc.).

The company's ambition is to use laser technology to improve the performance of its customers' dismantling projects, in terms of cost, time and safety.

This technology, developed and patented by the CEA and now industrialized by Onet Technologies, offers many advantages over traditional methods:

  • Precision and reliability: the laser enables precise cutting without mechanical failure.
  • Safety: laser technology is particularly well suited to radioactive environments, reducing operator exposure.
  • Versatility: the laser can be used to cut a wide variety of materials, including the toughest metals.

This technology is meeting with great interest internationally, for example in the use of lasers at the Fukushima-Daichi site, where Onet Technologies is currently conducting studies, or in Europe within the LD-Safe consortium.

With this in mind, Onet decided to set up its own laser technocenter. This is a further step towards the future, ensuring that the company remains at the cutting edge of technology while meeting the evolving needs of its customers in the field of dismantling.

Onet Technologies' laser technocenter: a major asset in dismantling performance

The Onet Technologies laser technocenter:
a major asset in dismantling performance

A new laser technocenter was inaugurated on October 3, 2024 in Chusclan (Gard) with three objectives:

  • Demonstrate the effectiveness of laser technology upstream of dismantling projects.
  • Train future operators in laser cutting techniques.
  • Develop new applications to optimize the use of this technology.

This laser technocenter draws on the expertise of Onet Technologies employees with a wide range of profiles: operators, engineers, project managers...

It now complements the company's dismantling center of excellence in the Rhône Valley, which already comprises the Pierrelatte site, with its 300-plus engineers and dismantling experts, and SOGEVAL, the logistics maintenance base for the transport, storage and processing of radioactive waste.

This investment reflects not only Onet Technologies' commitment to growth, but also its determination to play a key role in the transition to safer, more efficient dismantling practices. By placing innovation at the heart of its activities, the Onet Group is committed to meeting the nuclear challenges of tomorrow, while ensuring the sustainability of its commitments to customers and society.
