Onet Iberia teams maintain public spaces

Ensuring the health of public spaces requires proper management of street furniture, in particular disinfection. In Spain, since the start of the Covid crisis, Onet agents have been responsible for the management of these spaces in many towns in the Castilla & León and Andalusia regions, helping Spaniards to make the long-awaited return to normality.

#FOCUS ON ALMERIA

Almeria is located in Andalusia, southern Spain. For this city known for its Mediterranean coastline and seaside resorts (195,000 inhabitants outside the summer season, and 2.6 million tourists in 2019), the objective is clear: to ensure the safety of urban spaces for the beautiful days to come.

In 2016, Onet Iberia obtains UNE 1176 certification for the installation, inspection and maintenance of children's playgrounds. The company signs a 6-year contract with Almeria City Council to maintain the province's 175 playgrounds.

The three types of maintenance in place :

  • Preventive (once a week)
  • Corrective (when an incidence is reported by residents via the QR Code available in each area)
  • Functional inspections (once a month).

Thanks to the efficiency of these processes, Onet was awarded 30 additional areas this year, including outdoor sports areas.

What's changed since the Covid 19 was introduced

When a state of health emergency was declared in Spain on March 16, over 200 play areas maintained by Onet were closed in the region. In this context, the town council decided to entrust Onet with the organization of rounds to check the seals.

The city of Almeria then entered phase I* on May 11. Since then, the playgrounds have been sprayed 2 times a day. Today, all playgrounds can be deconfined. The Ministry's decree provides for their authorization from phase III*, a phase which Almeria has now entered.

Our Ciudades Division Operations Manager, Eva Sanz, shares her experience with us:

We can't guarantee disinfection after every child has passed through, but the protocols will of course be maintained and Onet will disinfect daily from the very first hour (...). We need to guarantee a safe and healthy space where parents can feel confident about bringing their children. We were already aware of our great responsibility in taking on this contract, because we're talking about the physical safety of our children, and now we're adding the health issue, an even greater responsibility in which our teams are involved with great passion."

* The deconfinement plan established by the Spanish government under Pedro Sanchez is structured into 3 progressive phases during which movement restrictions are gradually eased, and various economic sectors are authorized to resume their activities. Phase assignment is determined by province, and progression to the subsequent phase is centrally validated by the government, not by the city, province, or autonomous community (a province being similar to a French 'département', and an autonomous community similar to a French 'région').
