New foils for Fabrice Amedeo's IMOCA, between performance and commitment

Fabrice Amedeo's IMOCA launched after a major winter refit, "a rebirth and a new beginning" for our navigator: find out about the major modifications made to the monohull and the racing schedule for 2022.

Onet x Fabrice Amedeo, at the dawn of a magnificent year of adventure

Fabrice Amedeo 's IMOCA has been launched. It's the culmination of 4 months of hard work by the team, and a return to our roots, to the ocean. It is the culmination of weeks of behind-the-scenes work in the yard to modify and improve the boat.

In particular, they have fitted the IMOCA with a new pair of C-shaped foils, which are retractable, modular, larger and faster downwind. The aim? To fly higher and faster on the oceans ", says Fabrice. In addition, "we had to drill holes in the hull and deck, reinforce the bottom, and change the electronics and pilots ". At the end of the refit, " it's practically a new boat in its element ".

While everything has been done to improve performance and reliability, it will now be time to adapt. Fabrice confirms: "We're going to have to tame her all over again, discovering her new language and her reactions to reefs and waves ". What prevails when the IMOCA returns to the sea is enthusiasm and an overflowing desire.

The skipper wants to fly the flag for those who put their trust in him, while remaining true to his convictions and his desire to witness and appreciate the fragility of the spaces he crosses.

From now on, there will be one sea outing after another, followed by a number of appointments.

  • The Bermuda 1000 Race, the first race of what promises to be an exciting season.
Start Sunday May 8 in Brest.
  • The Transat Arctique Les Sables d'Olonne, the first qualifying race for the Vendée Globe 2024.
Start Sunday June 12 in Les Sables d'Olonne.
  • The Route du Rhum, 12th edition of the solo transatlantic race.
Start Sunday November 6 in Saint-Malo
