Onet renews its support for yachtsman Fabrice Amedeo
Setting course for the Vendée Globe 2024

The partnership between Fabrice Amedeo and Onet continues for the preservation of the oceans. The program includes the purchase of a new boat and awareness-raising events.

Onet x Fabrice Amedeo, a lasting partnership

Since 2019, Onet has been supporting Fabrice Amedeo in his #OceanCalling scientific project. In a world where climate change and ocean pollution are major issues, a French sailor has taken concrete steps to preserve the oceans.

As a skipper, the former journalist has been contributing to the prevention of ocean pollution for over 3 years, by installing oceanographic sensors on board his Imoca. He travels the globe in international races such as the Route du Rhum, the Vendée Globe and the Transat Jacques-Vabre, visiting areas not covered by scientific expeditions.

It is therefore mainly in the service of science that he sails to collect precious information. The scientific sensors on board Fabrice Amedeo's boat collect useful data for the international scientific community and partners such as theUniversity of Bordeaux,IFREMER...

These sensors can measure parameters such as water temperature and salinity, air quality and microplastic levels. The sensors are designed to operate 24 hours a day, and can send their data in real time to land-based laboratories for analysis.

One of the objectives is to map microplastic pollution in ocean surface waters and assess their chemical impregnation and toxicity.

Onet will accompany Fabrice Amedeo on his adventures until the next Vendée Globe, in 2024.

Onet supports Fabrice Amedeo's determination after the loss of his Imoca in the Route du Rhum 2022

On November 14, 2022, Fabrice Amedeo was taking part in the Route du Rhum, a solo round-the-world race. When he was about 600 miles from the Portuguese coast, an explosion occurred in the cockpit of his boat, causing a fire and sinking. Fortunately, Fabrice managed to eject from his boat before it sank, and was rescued by a cargo ship. Onet is committed to supporting the navigator in his scientific project and helping him in this new adventure. The Onet Group salutes her courage and determination, which is why the family-owned company has decided to renew the partnership.

It's a great story that's starting all over again and will take us all the way to the Vendée Globe.

A light, reliable, simple boat

Just before Christmas, the skipper acquired an IMOCA.

We will also continue to sail for science and contribute, in our own way, to the fight against ocean pollution.

The oceanographic sensors that equipped the boat lost in the Route du Rhum will be bought back and reinstalled on board, thanks to Onet, a committed partner in the oceanographic project who has supported Fabrice in his civic-minded approach from day one.

The onboard laboratory will include the Ocean Pack, which measures salinity, CO2 and ocean temperature, the Microplastic Sensor and the Environmental DNA Sensor.

Other sensors are being studied and will soon be installed on board. Fabrice Amedeo and his team are also committed to the energy transition, with the aim of circumnavigating the globe without the use of fossil fuels.

With this boat, our sporting ambitions will be more modest," admits Fabrice, "even though the Vendée Globe is an adventure and a lot will be happening in the southern seas during the winter of 2024-2025. We're continuing to invest fully in the preservation of the oceans and the energy transition, to bring the adventure to life, while keeping an eye out for an unexpected performance in the next Vendée Globe.
